Study With the Rabbi

HAFTARAH STUDY

Every Shabbat and on Festivals we read a prophetic portion known as the Haftarah.  For many, prophetic language is an enigma and confusing. Furthermore, each Haftarah is an excerpt from a prophetic book, and thus without context. If you would like to better understand what we are reading, and learn more of our Sacred Scriptures (Tanach), come and study with us from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons beginning October 14th.

Adult Hebrew Class 2

Rabbi Caplan's ongoing Adult Hebrew Class 2 is continuing following Winter Break. Knowledge of Hebrew letter recognition is required. Participants will learn Hebrew prayer Service.

Next class is Sunday, January 10th, 9:30-10:30 a.m. in Rabbi's study. Call Lois in the Temple office, 708-748-6010, if you have not already signed up to participate.

Adult Singles

Rabbi Caplan plans to meet with TAS adult singles to plan events and classes that would be of interest to our “single population”.  This meeting will take place sometime in January.  This program: “Ask the Rabbi “– will be an informal social group where we will schmooze, discuss current events in a Jewish context, and address other Jewish related concerns.

Movie Nights

Once again, Rabbi Caplan will host a series of movie nights with great discussions following the viewing.  Dates have not yet been established.  Watch your mail for more information.

Experiential Thoughts For Adult Education

Ideas for future events are:  a trip to the Spertus Museum, a class to discuss and learn about Pirke Avot.  If you have any ideas that you would like to have developed, please call Anna-Marie Brodsky, our Adult Education Chair, at 708-423-0213.

CURRENT EVENTS DISCUSSION GROUP

Rabbi Caplan will be offering a CURRENT EVENTS DISCUSSION GROUP for those congregants who are interested in discussing what is happening in today's world. Time and days to be determined by those who are interested in participating. Please call the Temple office to indicate your preference on time of day, day of the week and how often you would like one to take place, i.e., once a month, twice a month, etc. We need a "sufficient number of participants" to make this group viable so please call the office as soon as possible and let us know your interest and preferences.
